| The program in Communicative Disorders offers bachelor's and master's
degrees in speech-language pathology, and a Ph.D. in Applied
Language and Speech Sciences. The bachelor's degree (BA)is
a pre-professional degree that
is designed to lead students to an advanced degree in communication
disorders. The master's degree(MS) is the entry level position
for those individuals interested
in a clinical career in speech-language pathology. The MS
education program in speech-language pathology at the University
of Louisiana at Lafayette is accredited by the Council on
Academic Accreditation in Audiology and
Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing
Association, 2200 Research Boulevard #310, Rockville, Maryland
20850, 800-498-2071 or
301-296-5700. The Ph.D. program is tailored for individuals
that seek a career in research and/or
higher education. The Department of Communicative Disorders adopted the following mission statement in 1997: To understand how communication works and how it breaks down so that we can design better intervention procedures to enable individuals with communication disorders to lead richer, fuller, and more productive lives. In keeping with this mission, specific goals for the bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs were established. In the fall of 2009, the faculty and staff of the department met to update and revise a plan for the future of the department. The result was an organzied strategic plan with specific focus areas and strategies to accomplish our goals that was in better alignment with the strategic plan of the University as a whole. Use the link below to read about our vision for the department. |
