Dr. Michael P. Cannito, Hawthorne/BORSF Distinguished Professor of Communicative Disorders, attended the 30th World Congress of the International Association for Logopedics and Phoniatrics (IALP) in Dublin, Ireland on August 21-25. Dr. Cannito attended the event as an American Speech-Language Hearing Association Delegate to the IALP General Assembly. The conference hosted professionals in the areas of speech, language, communication, hearing, and swallowing sciences and education who attended presentations on advancing research and clinical practice. These professionals represented over 100 difference countries around the world. Dr. Cannito described the opening ceremonies as the "most moving and uplifting" event of the conference as professionals from various countries came together to be educated in the same field of study. In addition to serving as a delegate to the General Assembly, Dr. Cannito presented his research on behavioral outcome measures for speech and voice rehabilitation for Parkinson's disease.
